Pleural Fluid for Anti TB IgM

Pleural fluid for Anti-TB IgM testing is used to detect the presence of immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies specific to Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the pleural space. IgM is the first antibody produced in response to a TB infection, and its detection can indicate an active or recent TB infection in cases of pleural effusion. A sample of pleural fluid is collected through thoracentesis and analyzed for Anti-TB IgM antibodies. Elevated levels suggest an early immune response to TB. Risks of the procedure include infection, bleeding, or lung puncture. Positive results support the diagnosis of active TB infection and help guide treatment decisions.
