Pleural Fluid for Anti TB IgG

Pleural fluid for Anti-TB IgG testing is used to detect the presence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB), in the pleural space. This test is typically performed when a pleural effusion is suspected to be caused by TB. A sample of pleural fluid is collected through thoracentesis, and the fluid is analyzed for the presence of Anti-TB IgG antibodies. Elevated IgG levels suggest an immune response to TB. Risks include infection, bleeding, or lung puncture during the thoracentesis. Positive results help confirm TB as the cause of pleural effusion and guide further treatment.
