Pericardial Fluid for AFB Stain
This test detects tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in the pericardial fluid surrounding the heart. Preparation involves obtaining a sample through a procedure called pericardiocentesis. During the test, a needle is inserted into the chest to withdraw fluid from the pericardium. Risks include infection, bleeding, or injury to nearby structures. After the test, the area may be sore.
