Oral Swab for AFB Stain
The oral swab for Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) stain is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections in the mouth or throat. Preparation includes cleaning the mouth before the sample collection. During the test, a swab is taken from the oral mucosa or throat. Risks are minimal but may involve slight discomfort or gagging. After the test, there is no special care needed. Results identify the presence of AFB, confirming infection.
