The nasal swab Gram stain helps diagnose bacterial infections, identifying pathogens and determining antibiotic susceptibility. Preparation involves cleaning the nostrils to ensure an accurate sample. During the test, a swab is gently inserted into the nasal cavity to collect mucus or discharge. Risks are minimal but may include mild discomfort or nosebleed. After the test, no special care is required. Results reveal the presence of bacteria and their Gram characteristics (e.g., Gram-positive or Gram-negative).
