Iron
The iron test measures iron levels in the blood to evaluate iron metabolism and diagnose conditions like anemia or iron overload. It is often part of an iron panel, including ferritin, transferrin, and total iron-binding capacity (TIBC). Blood is drawn from a vein, with minimal preparation, though fasting may be required. Risks are minor, such as slight bruising at the puncture site. Low iron levels indicate anemia or nutritional deficiencies, while high levels suggest hemochromatosis or chronic diseases.
