hTSH

hTSH stands for human Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland to regulate the thyroid's production of hormones like T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). Measuring hTSH levels is essential for diagnosing thyroid disorders, such as hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). The hTSH test involves a simple blood draw, usually taken from a vein in the arm. Normal levels typically range between 0.4–4.0 mIU/L, though ranges may vary slightly based on lab standards. High hTSH suggests hypothyroidism, while low hTSH points to hyperthyroidism. Factors like medications, pregnancy, or stress can influence results, making professional interpretation critical for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
