HSV 1 - IgM
The HSV-1 IgM test detects IgM antibodies, which are typically the first antibodies produced by the immune system in response to a herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection. A positive result suggests a recent or active infection, as IgM levels rise shortly after exposure and decrease over time. A negative result generally indicates no current or recent infection. The test involves a blood draw with no special preparation required. However, IgM tests may sometimes produce false positives or fail to distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2.
