CAPD Fluid for Anti TB IgM

Testing CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) fluid for Anti-TB IgM antibodies is used to detect an early immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, particularly when peritoneal tuberculosis (TB) is suspected in a patient undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The presence of IgM antibodies indicates a recent or acute infection, as IgM is the first antibody produced in response to a new infection. A sample of the CAPD effluent (dialysate) is collected and tested, typically using methods like enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), to detect the Anti-TB IgM antibodies. Elevated levels of IgM in the fluid may suggest active peritoneal TB. However, this test is often used alongside other diagnostic tools, such as AFB smear, culture, and PCR, for a more accurate diagnosis of peritoneal tuberculosis.
