Bronchial Washing for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) is a diagnostic procedure used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections in the lungs. During a bronchoscopy, a sterile saline solution is instilled into the bronchial tubes and then suctioned out, collecting cells and mucus. This sample is tested for the presence of AFB, which are characteristic of TB. Preparation involves fasting and sometimes stopping certain medications.
