VDRL
The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) test is used to detect syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. The test detects antibodies produced in response to the infection. A blood sample is drawn, and the serum is tested for the presence of these antibodies. No special preparation is typically required. Risks include mild discomfort during the blood draw. A positive result suggests syphilis, while a negative result generally rules out the infection, though false negatives can occur, especially in early stages.
