HSV 2 - IgM
The HSV-2 IgM test detects IgM antibodies, which are typically produced early during a herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection. A positive result may indicate a recent or active infection, as IgM antibodies appear shortly after exposure and decline over time. A negative result suggests no current or recent infection. The test requires a blood draw and no special preparation. However, IgM tests may sometimes produce false positives and cannot reliably distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections. For accurate diagnosis and management, results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in conjunction with symptoms and other diagnostic findings.1400 BDT
