HSV 1 & 2 - IgM
The HSV-1 & 2 IgM test detects IgM antibodies, which typically appear early in response to herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) infections. A positive result may indicate a recent or active infection, as IgM antibodies are produced shortly after exposure and decline over time. A negative result suggests no current or recent infection. The test involves a standard blood draw and does not require special preparation. However, IgM tests may lack specificity, occasionally producing false positives or failing to distinguish between HSV-1 and HSV-2.
