Bilirubin (D/I)
Bilirubin (D/I) refers to the two types of bilirubin measured in a blood test: direct and indirect bilirubin. Direct bilirubin (also called conjugated bilirubin) is water-soluble and is processed by the liver, while indirect bilirubin (unconjugated bilirubin) is fat-soluble and is a byproduct of the breakdown of red blood cells. This test helps diagnose liver conditions like hepatitis, cirrhosis, or bile duct obstructions, and hemolytic anemia.
