Ascitic Fluid C/S for AFB
The Ascitic Fluid C/S for AFB test involves collecting a sample of ascitic fluid (fluid from the abdominal cavity) to check for the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB), which are the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis (TB). This test is used to diagnose tuberculous peritonitis, a type of TB that affects the abdomen. The fluid is cultured in a laboratory to identify any AFB present. The procedure is performed by aspirating the fluid with a needle, and the risks include slight discomfort, infection, or bleeding at the puncture site.
