X-ray of Right Ankle Joint (Mortise View)

An X-ray of the right ankle joint in the Mortise view is used to evaluate the bones, ligaments, and joints of the ankle, particularly for fractures or injuries. In this view, the patient’s foot is positioned with the ankle dorsiflexed and rotated inward (approximately 15–20 degrees), so the tibia and fibula form a ""mortise"" or open space with the talus bone. This allows a clear view of the ankle joint's alignment and helps detect fractures, dislocations, or arthritis. The Mortise view is especially useful for assessing lateral malleolus and the joint space. Typically, no special preparation is needed for this X-ray.
