Video Varical Banding
Video variceal banding is a medical procedure used to treat esophageal varices—dilated veins in the esophagus that can rupture and cause dangerous bleeding. During the procedure, an endoscope with a camera is inserted through the mouth to visualize the varices. Small rubber bands are then placed around the varices to stop blood flow, causing the veins to shrink and eventually be absorbed by the body. This procedure is typically done to prevent or control bleeding in patients with liver disease or cirrhosis. Preparation involves fasting, and sedation is usually administered for comfort.
