Oral Swab for Gram Stain
This test helps identify bacterial infections in the mouth or throat by detecting pathogens and determining their Gram characteristics. Preparation involves avoiding food or drink for 30 minutes before the test. During the procedure, a swab is gently rubbed against the inside of the mouth or throat to collect a sample. Risks are minimal but may include mild discomfort or gagging. After the test, no special care is needed. Results indicate the presence of bacteria and whether they are Gram-positive or Gram-negative. Conditions like recent antibiotic use, mouth sores, or infections can impact the test’s accuracy.600 BDT
