Micro Albumin Creatinine Ratio

The microalbumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) test measures the amount of albumin (a type of protein) in the urine, adjusted for creatinine levels. This test helps assess kidney function, particularly in early stages of kidney disease, such as diabetic nephropathy. A higher ratio indicates the presence of small amounts of albumin in the urine, which can be an early sign of kidney damage. It is typically done with a random urine sample, with minimal preparation required. Risks are minimal, as the test only involves urine collection. Abnormal results may prompt further testing or changes in management to protect kidney health.
