Anti HBc (Total)
The Anti-HBc (Total) test detects both IgM and IgG antibodies against the hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg). A positive result indicates previous exposure to the hepatitis B virus (HBV), whether through acute or chronic infection. It is useful for identifying individuals with past infection or those at risk of chronic hepatitis B. This test does not distinguish between acute and chronic infections but can help in monitoring HBV status. The test is performed with a blood sample, and risks are minimal, typically involving slight discomfort during the blood draw.
