Stool for Occult Blood Test
A stool occult blood test is used to detect hidden (occult) blood in the stool, which may indicate bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. This test is commonly used for screening conditions like colorectal cancer, ulcers, diverticulosis, or gastrointestinal bleeding from other sources. The test involves collecting a small sample of stool, which is then tested in the lab using chemical reagents or immunoassays. The presence of occult blood may be detected even if there is no visible blood in the stool. Results are typically available within 1-2 days.
