MRI OF BRAIN CSF FLOW
MRI of the brain with CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) flow is a specialized imaging procedure used to assess the movement of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain and spinal cord. It helps diagnose conditions like hydrocephalus (excess fluid buildup), Chiari malformation, or abnormalities in the ventricular system or the spinal canal. This technique uses MRI to capture real-time images of CSF dynamics, often employing phase contrast imaging to track fluid flow. During the procedure, you will lie still in the MRI scanner, and a contrast dye may be injected to enhance the images, though it is not always necessary. No special preparation is usually required, but fasting may be recommended if contrast is used. Risks are minimal, with potential allergic reactions to the contrast dye and mild discomfort from staying still.
