HSV 1 - IgG
The HSV-1 IgG test detects antibodies in the blood to determine if you have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). HSV-1 commonly causes oral herpes but can also cause genital herpes. A positive result indicates past exposure or infection, as IgG antibodies develop weeks after infection and remain in the body for life. A negative result suggests no previous exposure. The test requires a simple blood draw, with no special preparation. While typically accurate, recent infections might not yet produce detectable IgG levels, leading to a false negative.
