Hb A1c
The HbA1c test measures average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months by assessing the percentage of glycated hemoglobin in the blood. It is used to diagnose and monitor diabetes and prediabetes. A small blood sample is drawn, typically from a vein in the arm, and no fasting is required. Normal levels are below 5.7%, prediabetes is indicated by 5.7–6.4%, and diabetes is diagnosed at 6.5% or higher. The test is low-risk, with minimal discomfort or bruising at the blood draw site.
