Growth Hormone
Growth Hormone (GH) is a peptide hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a crucial role in growth, metabolism, and cell repair. It stimulates growth in children and adolescents and helps maintain muscle mass, bone density, and tissue health in adults. GH levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day and increase during sleep, exercise, and stress. Abnormal GH levels can indicate conditions like growth hormone deficiency (causing stunted growth or muscle loss) or acromegaly (excess GH leading to abnormal bone growth). GH disorders are typically diagnosed through blood tests, stimulation or suppression tests, and imaging studies.
