Cortisol level 0.5 hr After Injection

The Cortisol Level 0.5 Hr After Injection test measures the cortisol concentration in the blood 30 minutes after the administration of a synthetic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) injection, commonly known as the ACTH Stimulation Test. This test evaluates the adrenal glands' response to ACTH, which normally stimulates cortisol production. A normal result shows a significant increase in cortisol levels after the injection, indicating healthy adrenal function. If cortisol levels do not rise appropriately, it may suggest adrenal insufficiency, as seen in conditions like Addison’s disease or hypopituitarism. The test is useful in diagnosing primary adrenal insufficiency and evaluating the overall function of the adrenal glands.
