Bronchial Lavage Cytology
Bronchial Lavage Cytology is a diagnostic procedure used to collect fluid from the lungs for examination of cells, often to diagnose lung infections, inflammation, or cancer. During a bronchoscopy, a sterile saline solution is introduced into the bronchial tubes, then suctioned out to collect the fluid. This fluid is examined under a microscope to identify abnormal cells, pathogens, or signs of cancer. Preparation may include fasting and avoiding certain medications.
