Intact PTH
Intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a blood test measuring the level of PTH in the bloodstream, produced by the parathyroid glands. It helps regulate calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D levels, playing a key role in bone health. The test diagnoses conditions like hyperparathyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, and disorders affecting calcium balance. Preparation involves fasting and avoiding certain medications if advised by a doctor. Blood is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm. Risks are minimal, including slight pain or bruising at the puncture site. Results are interpreted alongside calcium levels: high PTH suggests hyperparathyroidism or kidney issues, while low levels may indicate hypoparathyroidism or other metabolic conditions.1400 BDT
