HSV 2 - IgG
The HSV-2 IgG test detects IgG antibodies in the blood to determine if you have been previously exposed to herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), commonly associated with genital herpes. A positive result indicates a past or established infection, as IgG antibodies develop weeks after infection and persist for life. A negative result suggests no prior exposure. The test involves a simple blood draw and does not require special preparation. Recent infections may not yet produce detectable IgG levels, leading to a false negative.
