Urine for AFB
The Urine for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) test is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections in the urinary tract. A urine sample is collected and examined for the presence of AFB, which are the bacteria responsible for TB. No special preparation is needed. Risks include mild discomfort during collection. A positive result suggests a mycobacterial infection like TB, while a negative result may require further testing if symptoms persist. Poor sample collection or contamination can affect accuracy.
