Pancreatic Amylase
The pancreatic amylase test measures the level of amylase enzyme in the blood, helping diagnose pancreatic disorders like pancreatitis. Preparation involves fasting for 8-12 hours prior to the test. During the test, a blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm. Risks are minimal but may include slight discomfort or bruising at the injection site. After the test, normal activities can be resumed. Results indicate if amylase levels are elevated, which may suggest pancreatic inflammation or other conditions.
