Pericardial Fluid for AFB Stain
This test detects tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in the pericardial fluid surrounding the heart. Preparation involves obtaining a sample through a procedure called pericardiocentesis. During the test, a needle is inserted into the chest to withdraw fluid from the pericardium. Risks include infection, bleeding, or injury to nearby structures. After the test, the area may be sore. Results show the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB), indicating TB infection. Conditions like prior TB treatment or other infections can influence results or complicate interpretation.Place for Ads
