HSV 1 & 2 - IgG
The HSV-1 & 2 IgG test identifies IgG antibodies in the blood to determine past exposure to herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). A positive result indicates prior infection, as IgG antibodies develop weeks after exposure and persist for life, while a negative result suggests no prior exposure. The test involves a simple blood draw and requires no special preparation. It is useful for distinguishing between HSV-1 (often linked to oral herpes) and HSV-2 (commonly associated with genital herpes).
