(Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography) is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to evaluate the bile ducts, primarily for identifying blockages, stones, or other abnormalities. During this procedure, a contrast dye is injected directly into the bile ducts through the skin, typically under local anesthesia. X-rays are then taken to capture detailed images of the bile ducts, liver, and surrounding areas. This procedure is usually performed when non-invasive imaging, such as an ultrasound, is insufficient. It helps guide treatment for conditions like bile duct obstructions, cholangitis, or tumors.
