It measures the thickness of the fluid-filled space at the back of the fetus's neck, known as the nuchal fold. This scan helps assess the risk of chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome, trisomy 18, or other fetal abnormalities. A small amount of gel is applied to the abdomen, and a probe is moved over the skin to capture the images.
