T4
T4 (Thyroxine) is a thyroid hormone that regulates metabolism, energy, and growth. It is converted into the more active T3 in the liver and other tissues. Blood tests measure T4 in two forms: Total T4 (both bound and free) and Free T4 (the biologically active form). Abnormal T4 levels can indicate thyroid dysfunction. High T4 levels are often linked to hyperthyroidism, such as Graves' disease or thyroiditis. Low T4 levels may suggest hypothyroidism or conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
