Synovial Fluid for GeneXpert
A synovial fluid for GeneXpert test is used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) in cases of tuberculous arthritis. This molecular test uses the GeneXpert MTB/RIF system to rapidly identify the presence of TB bacteria in synovial fluid and also test for rifampicin resistance, a marker of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). The test is particularly helpful in diagnosing joint TB when traditional methods like culture or acid-fast bacilli (AFB) staining are negative.
