SYNAPTOPHYSIN
Synaptophysin is a protein found in the presynaptic vesicles of neurons, playing a crucial role in neurotransmitter release. It is often used as a marker for neuroendocrine cells, including neurons and certain neuroendocrine tumors, such as small cell lung cancer, neuroblastomas, and carcinoid tumors. In diagnostic pathology, synaptophysin is commonly detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining to confirm the neuronal origin of tumors or to help identify neuroendocrine differentiation in malignant tissues. It is especially useful for differentiating between neuroendocrine and non-neuroendocrine tumors. Elevated or positive synaptophysin staining in tissues can indicate neuroendocrine features.4000 BDT
