Sputum C/S for AFB (Culture and Sensitivity for Acid-Fast Bacilli) is a test used to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) and other mycobacterial infections. It involves collecting a sample of sputum (mucus from the lungs) and sending it to a laboratory, where it is cultured to detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis or other acid-fast bacilli (AFB). The sensitivity part of the test determines which antibiotics are effective against the bacteria. Preparation typically involves providing an early morning sputum sample. Results can take several weeks, as mycobacteria grow slowly. A positive result confirms an active infection and guides appropriate treatment.1500 BDT
