The Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) exposure. It involves injecting a small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) under the skin. After 48-72 hours, a healthcare provider checks for a reaction (red, raised area). Preparation includes no special fasting or medications. Risks include minor discomfort, swelling, or an allergic reaction. Results are interpreted based on the size of the reaction, with larger reactions indicating possible TB exposure. Conditions like previous TB vaccination (BCG) may affect accuracy. A positive result may require further testing, like a chest X-ray.600 BDT
