Pus C/S for AFB
The Pus C/S for AFB (Culture and Sensitivity for Acid-Fast Bacilli) test is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections in pus samples. The sample is cultured to identify any AFB, which are bacteria resistant to standard staining. Preparation: No special preparation is required. Procedure: A sample of pus is collected, typically via aspiration or drainage. Risks: Minimal, mostly related to the collection process (discomfort or infection). Results Interpretation: A positive result indicates mycobacterial infection, while sensitivity testing helps guide antibiotic treatment.
