MRI of Prostate
An MRI of the prostate is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the prostate gland and surrounding tissues. It is commonly used to evaluate prostate conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, prostatitis, or to assess the extent of known prostate cancer. For this procedure, you may be asked to undergo a rectal examination or have a contrast agent (gadolinium) injected for better visualization. Preparation often involves an empty bladder and possibly fasting before the test. During the scan, you will lie still in the MRI machine for about 30-45 minutes.
