An MRI of the pelvis with screening of the lumbar-sacral (L/S) spine is a diagnostic procedure that combines imaging of both the pelvic region and the lower spine. It uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the pelvic organs (such as the bladder, reproductive organs, and surrounding soft tissues) and the lumbar (lower back) and sacral spine, including the vertebrae, discs, nerves, and surrounding structures. This scan is often used to evaluate conditions like pelvic tumors, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, arthritis, or musculoskeletal issues. No special preparation is typically required, but fasting may be needed if contrast agents are used. During the procedure, you will lie still in the MRI machine for 30-45 minutes.
