It measures the movement of water molecules in tissues, highlighting areas with restricted water diffusion, which is common in cancerous or inflamed tissues. DWIBS is valuable for detecting malignancies, evaluating inflammatory conditions, and mapping lymph nodes for cancer staging. During the scan, the patient remains still as high-resolution images are taken. No special preparation is usually required, though fasting may be necessary.
