MRI & MRA of brain perfusion with acetazolamide challenge, combined with neck vessels imaging, is a comprehensive procedure used to assess both brain function and blood flow, along with the vascular health of the neck. The MRI provides detailed images of the brain's structure, while the MRA examines the arteries in the brain and neck for blockages, aneurysms, or stenosis. The brain perfusion with acetazolamide challenge evaluates cerebral blood flow by administering acetazolamide, which temporarily increases blood circulation, helping detect areas of reduced perfusion (ischemia) or risk for stroke. During the procedure, you will lie still in the MRI scanner, and contrast dye may be injected. Fasting may be recommended, especially if contrast is used. Risks include allergic reactions to contrast dye, potential side effects from acetazolamide, and discomfort from staying still.
