MRI & MRA of Brain perfusion With Acetazolamide Challenge
MRI & MRA of the brain perfusion with an acetazolamide challenge is a specialized imaging procedure used to assess blood flow in the brain. The MRI captures detailed images of the brain’s structure, while MRA visualizes the blood vessels, detecting conditions like aneurysms or blockages. The perfusion part measures cerebral blood flow, providing information about how well blood circulates in the brain. Acetazolamide, a medication that temporarily increases blood flow, is administered to challenge the brain's vascular response, which helps identify areas of reduced blood flow (ischemia). During the procedure, you'll lie still in an MRI scanner, and a contrast dye may be injected. Fasting may be required, especially if contrast is used. Risks include allergic reactions to the dye, side effects from acetazolamide, and mild discomfort from lying still. This test is particularly useful for evaluating stroke, vasospasm, or other vascular brain conditions.Place for Ads
