Doppler USG of Portal & Hepatic Vein
A Doppler ultrasound of the portal and hepatic veins is used to assess blood flow in the liver's vascular system, helping to diagnose conditions like portal hypertension, liver cirrhosis, or blood clots. During the procedure, a gel is applied to the abdomen, and a transducer emits sound waves to evaluate blood flow in the portal vein (which carries blood from the intestines to the liver) and the hepatic veins (which drain blood from the liver). This non-invasive test can reveal abnormalities like increased pressure in the portal vein, which can lead to complications. No special preparation is typically required, and there are minimal risks.
