During this test, a contrast dye is injected into a vein for the I.V.U. to visualize the kidneys and ureters, while the M.C.U. involves filling the bladder with contrast dye through a catheter. X-ray images are taken while the patient is urinating (micturating), allowing the doctor to observe bladder function and any potential reflux, obstructions, or structural abnormalities in the urinary tract.
