Creatinine Clearance Rate
The Creatinine Clearance Rate test measures how effectively the kidneys are filtering creatinine, a waste product of muscle metabolism, from the blood. It is used to assess kidney function and is considered a more accurate estimate of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) than a single serum creatinine level. The test involves measuring the creatinine concentration in both blood and urine collected over a 24-hour period. The formula for calculating the clearance rate takes into account the volume of urine produced and the concentration of creatinine in both the blood and urine. A lower than normal creatinine clearance rate may indicate kidney dysfunction, chronic kidney disease (CKD), or renal impairment, while a higher rate may suggest excessive filtration.1100 BDT
