Urine for GeneXpert (MTB)
A urine GeneXpert (MTB) test is a molecular diagnostic test used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB), in a urine sample. It can also detect resistance to rifampicin, a first-line TB medication. The test is performed using the GeneXpert instrument, which analyzes the urine sample for the presence of MTB DNA. Results are typically available within 2 hours. The test is used to diagnose TB, particularly in people with extrapulmonary TB (TB outside the lungs), such as in the kidneys or urinary tract.
